Michał Mroczka, born in 1984, holds a Master of Arts degree with a specialization in easel painting from the Faculty of Arts at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin. He is a member of the Open Studio Association. Mroczka is the recipient of the Golden Retro Leaf, a Special Award from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. He was a finalist for the Franciszka Eibisch Foundation Grand Prix in 2015, the Art Confrontations 2016 competition at the Mazovian Institute of Culture, as well as the 3rd and 4th editions of the National L. Wyczółkowski Painting Competition in Bydgoszcz and the 2023 Art Biennale in Krosno. He was also a semifinalist in the Arte Laguna 2016 competition in Venice. One of his paintings appeared on the cover of Mariusz Szczygieł’s book There Is No, for which the author received the 2019 Nike Literary Award. In his works, Mroczka aims to create a symbiosis between painterly form and geopolitical content, history, and industrial landscapes. He has participated in several solo exhibitions and numerous group shows.
