Project Nautilus

The Nautilus Diving Section, part of the KSTO KORAB scientific club in collaboration with the intercollegiate Ocean Tech Dive scientific club at Gdańsk University of Technology, is undertaking an exceptionally innovative project – the construction of the Nautilus submarine. This unique vessel is powered exclusively by the diver's muscle strength, driven by a pedaling motion similar to riding a bicycle.

Nautilus is not a typical submarine. Its structure is not watertight, and the interior is entirely filled with water. The pilot is a diver who breathes using a multi-cylinder system mounted at the bottom of the submarine.

Nautilus is not only an engineering project but also a sporting challenge. Piloting such a submarine requires excellent physical fitness and diving skills.

The goal of the project is not only to create a one-of-a-kind submarine but also to foster skill development among students in various fields, such as:

Mechanical Engineering: designing and building the hull, propulsion system, and control systems.

Materials Science: selecting appropriate materials to ensure the structure's safety and durability.

Hydrodynamics: studying water resistance and optimizing the hull's shape.
