Deep Wreck, Cave & Mine Explorer

My name is Pawel Truszynski. Based in Belgium, I am a technical, cave, and mine diver (Deep Wreck, Cave & Mine Explorer), as well as a maritime history enthusiast and alpinist. In my underwater journeys, I focus on more than just exploration—my ultimate passion is resurrecting and nourishing the history buried on the seabed, bringing it out of the darkness and making past centuries speak to the modern world.Diving as a core member of the Baltictech group, I played a key role in the world-famous discovery of a 19th-century sailing vessel in the Baltic Sea. The wreck carried a cargo of luxury goods, including historic bottles of Louis Roederer champagne intended for the Russian Imperial Court. My reports, findings, and months of archival research surrounding this unique shipwreck have attracted global media attention, being prominently featured in major international publications such as Forbes, The Washington Post, and the Smithsonian Magazine. This fascination with "liquid history" naturally brought me together with my close friend and long-time dive partner, Stefan Panis. When Stefan recovered intact, 162-year-old export Guinness bottles from the Mindoro shipwreck at the bottom of the English Channel, we launched an extraordinary initiative. Currently, I lead the scientific side of our international "Project Jurassic Beer", a collaboration with Professor Kevin Verstrepen from KU Leuven. Our goal is to isolate and laboratory resurrect Victorian yeast from the find to recreate the historic brew.

Title: Bottles from the deep: When Louis Roederer meets Guinness

Two shipwrecks. Two extraordinary discoveries. Two bottles that survived more than a century beneath the sea.In this fascinating presentation, Stefan Panis and Paweł Truszynski share the stories behind their remarkable discoveries: the Louis Roederer champagne bottles found in a shipwreck in the Baltic Sea, and a Guinness bottle dating back to 1864, discovered in a shipwreck in the English Channel. What can these bottles tell us about the past? And what happens when two completely different discoveries - Champagne from the Baltic and Guinness from the English Channel - come together through research? From underwater discovery and historical investigation to scientific analysis and new research projects, these bottles have opened the door to new questions, new discoveries, and exciting future projects. Two bottles. Two seas. One remarkable journey of discovery - from the deep to the laboratory and beyond.
