Prof. Jacek Kot, MD, PhD Jacek Kot

Prof. Jacek Kot is a physician specializing in anaesthesiology and intensive care, as well as an internationally recognized expert in diving and hyperbaric medicine (ECHM Level 3 Expert). Since 2015, he has served as the Head of the National Centre for Hyperbaric Medicine at the Medical University of Gdańsk.

He is the former President of the European Underwater and Baromedical Society (EUBS) and currently serves as Chairman of the European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine (ECHM). He co-authored the current ECHM/EUBS guidelines for recreational and occupational diving and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (details available at www.KOMH.pl).

Prof. Kot is also a Medical Consultant for DAN Europe, where he reviews plans for deep diving operations. He chairs the international ESA Topical Team on Spaceflight Decompression Sickness, a panel of experts established by the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop recommendations for the diagnosis and management of decompression sickness in astronauts during space missions.

His professional interests include technical and saturation diving, the investigation of fatal diving accidents, and hyperbaric treatment of diving injuries and other life-threatening conditions, including gas gangrene, severe carbon monoxide poisoning, and arterial gas embolism. He is also a certified scuba diving instructor.

Prof. Kot regularly delivers lectures and professional courses and is the co-author of chapters in the internationally recognized publications The Science of Diving and Coping With Extreme Environments: A Physiological/Psychological Approach. Together with Tomasz Żabierek, he also co-authored the book Nitrox - A Guide for Divers.
